Description
Porcine models are used in translational research and as surgical models. They are increasingly being used as the primary nonrodent species in preclinical toxicologic testing of pharmaceuticals. Minipig strains were developed to provide a more manageable version of the domestic pig. There are various strains available, each with its own characteristics. Whole blood contains red cells, white cells, and platelets (~45% of total volume) suspended in plasma (~55% of total volume). It is used for a variety of research applications including drug target discovery, analysis of immune responses, and biomarker identification/validation
